The Beauty of her crown
This series highlights the beauty of Afro and curly hair, emphasising its natural elegance and unique texture. By focusing on the hair and forehead, it allows people to see and connect with the girls featured, fostering relatability and appreciation for diverse hair.
This series was initially inspired by Sianée's experiences with her daughter, as she often explores various hairstyles for her. While styling her daughter's hair, Sianée decided to draw one of these hairstyles to gain practice, especially since she hadn't yet drawn hair before. This creative endeavor led to the birth of a series that reflects her personal connection and inspiration drawn from her daughter's unique hair.
After witnessing her daughter's positive reaction to her portrait, Sianée was inspired to connect with other little girls, aiming to make them feel special and appreciated. Her series not only uplifts young girls by celebrating their unique beauty but also evokes a sense of nostalgia, allowing adults to reflect fondly on their own childhood experiences. Through her art, Sianée bridges generations, fostering a shared appreciation for the beauty and identity rooted in Afro and curly hair. By focusing solely on the forehead and hair, the artwork offers a universal aspect that allows anyone to look at a piece and say, “this is me,” creating a personal connection across diverse backgrounds.
Sianée chose to name her series "The Beauty of Her Crown" to emphasise the importance of Black children with Afro or curly hair recognising the beauty and significance of their natural hair. She aims to instill the understanding that their hair is an integral part of their identity and should be embraced and loved regardless of its texture, length, or style. By viewing their hair as a crown, Sianée encourages these children to wear it with pride and confidence, celebrating their unique beauty and heritage
